The Essence of My Leadership

To understand my leadership style, it is important to know that I love the study of metaphysics. I love exploring people’s psychology and symbolism, and how we give and create meaning in our lives. And in leadership, I remain cognizant of how the metaphysical landscape is evolving for the team, with the collaborative group discourse, the convictions of my team members, and the larger archetypal reasons behind those convictions, stated and unstated.

Given all this, I lead by example and through my convictions. I do not back down from a challenge and I am not afraid to express my thoughts or my reasons. I always encourage competition of ideas, but never competition between individuals. I freely question ideas when they need to be augmented or strengthened, and I freely express my concerns when something strikes me as a problem, and I do it by exposing the flaw in the situation, not by pointing fingers at any person. And the freedom with which I express my thoughts in the group setting and speak to individuals as if on a one-on-one basis, that freedom which I take encourages others to take that freedom as well in contributing to the group, following my lead. I am always trying to bring out the best in those around me, and one does this effectively by bringing out the best in oneself, and portraying that as a successful exercise in self-improvement.

It may be observed that I am more focused on group dynamics than on other parts of leadership or team building. But I view the team as critical; if you cannot rely on your team, there is no team. Further management of other issues may be done through the same principles successfully: 1) Bringing out the best in every person in the team, 2) Encouraging competition of ideas, not competition between individuals, and 3) Exposing the problems, not the individuals. And if the group’s metaphysical landscape is aimed towards the goal, with members empowered to speak, take charge, collaborate, and augment each other’s ideas towards a common goal, that is as effective a team as ever will be.
